In 1990, AMI introduced the R-94 / Video Star – a unique CD-and-video combo that stands alone in jukebox history.

The system used two 10-disc SONY CD changers (CDP-C100) paired with two SONY SL-HF450 VHS players, allowing playback of both audio CDs and VHS video. At that time, AMI did not yet have its own CD changer, with its own CD-changer mechanisms beginning development only in 1991. No other manufacturer offered a similar sound-and-video jukebox configuration. The Video Star represents a technological milestone, reflecting how jukebox makers responded to the growing influence of digital media.
